Aromatherapy

Seasonal Allergy Control

Allergy medications are among the most frequently used drugs. Some are over-the-counter, while others require a prescription. There are also herbal alternatives.

The immunology of secretions in airway mucosa is the first barrier against environmental irritants and pathogens. Hence it is important to keep them moist. Many of the drugs and herbal alternative listed below are warming, cooling and/or drying - and not very MOISTENING to airway mucosa.Sinus and respiratory problems that are precipitated by "dryness or dry-heat" may become worse with some of them.

Menopause & HRT

Menopause is when menstruation stops and the body goes through changes that no longer support pregnancy- a natural event that normally occurs at age 45 to 55 (MedlinePlus,  2014). Menopause is complete when a period has not occurred for 1 year (MedlinePlus).

The discomforts of the transition through menopause can exist many years before (peri-menopause) and after (post-menopause) menstruation ceases.  Common discomforts are hot flashes, night sweats, difficulty sleeping, amenorrhea or irregular menstrual cycles & bleeding patterns.

Adrenal Exhaustion Blend

I love this blend! It is balancing—pulling back when in over-drive, lending an extra spark-plug when lagging behind, and support when stalling-out. It is happy & reminiscent of the wilderness. I combined Traditional Chinese medicine & 5 Element theory with anthroposophy blending techniques. Anthroposophy is the use of the spiritual & energetic properties of botanicals; and the Doctrine-of-Signatures- the properties of plant parts, constituents & botanical families according to how they appear in nature etc:

Aromatherapy for Pain

ANALGESICS:
  • EUCALYPTUS GLOBULUS contains euglobal III which may inhibit granulation tissue formation and joint nodulations.
  • ROSEMARY ct. CINEOLE
  • BIRCH for cortisone-like pain relief
  • SPRUCE for endorphin release
  • WINTERGREEN for bone pain. The topical analgesic effect of the methyl  salicylate in wintergreen (and birch) essential oil is equivalent to aspirin (salicylic acid). However, 5 milliliters of wintergreen is equivalent to 25 aspirin, such that care must be taken for its anti-platelet properties (bleeding).

Back Pain Part I- Alternatives

There are many non-pharmacological alternatives available for the various causes of chronic pain. Common causes of lower back pain (LBP) are:

  • degenerative disk disease (osteoarthritis, herniation, osteoporosis)
  • radiculopathy & sciatica
  • muscle spasm/strain (repetitive stress & poor ergonomics)

Less common is back pain from ligament tears, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), tumors & multiple myeloma. Back pain can also be a symptom of kidney stones, gastric ulcers, pelvic inflammatory disease etc.
